How to Make Easy & Nutritious Baby Beef Sticks (Soegogi Stick) for 9–12+ Months

Homemade baby beef sticks with vegetables placed in a silicone mold tray for baby food preparation

Introduction

Hi everyone, JOA Mom here.

Today I’m sharing a simple and nutritious finger food — baby beef sticks (소고기스틱).

This baby beef sticks recipe is especially helpful during the self-feeding stage, when babies begin to hold and eat food on their own. It combines beef with finely chopped vegetables, making it an easy way to include both iron and fiber in one meal.

There are times when babies suddenly refuse to eat their usual meals, and baby beef sticks can be a great alternative option to offer instead. It’s also very simple to make, so I highly recommend trying it at least once.

Nutrition / Why this combo

Beef is a great source of iron and protein, which are essential for growing babies. After around 6 months, babies’ natural iron stores begin to decrease, so it becomes important to provide iron-rich foods.

Zucchini, carrot, and paprika add natural sweetness and moisture, along with vitamins and fiber. This combination helps create a softer texture, making baby beef sticks easier for babies to chew and swallow.

Cooking Tip

The most important point in this baby beef sticks recipe is kneading the mixture thoroughly.

When the beef and vegetables are well combined, the mixture becomes more cohesive and holds its shape better during cooking. If not kneaded enough, the sticks can easily fall apart.

Also, removing excess blood from the beef helps reduce any strong smell and makes the taste milder for babies.

Ingredients

🥩 150g ground beef
🥒 50g zucchini
🥕 50g carrot
🫑 50g paprika
🌾 1 tbsp rice flour

5 Simple Steps

1️⃣ Remove excess moisture from beef

Use a kitchen towel to gently press and remove blood from the ground beef.

2️⃣ Finely chop vegetables

Chop zucchini, carrot, and paprika into very small pieces so babies can easily chew them.

3️⃣ Mix and knead

Combine beef, vegetables, and rice flour. Knead thoroughly until the mixture becomes sticky and well combined.

4️⃣ Shape into sticks

Shape into long, thin sticks that are easy for babies to hold. Using a silicone tray lightly greased with olive oil can help with shaping.

5️⃣ Air fry

Cook in an air fryer at 180°C (356°F) for 10 minutes, then flip and cook for another 3 minutes.

JOA Mom’s Experience

This baby beef sticks recipe helped me a lot when my baby started self-feeding.

At first, I made the sticks too thick, and my baby had trouble holding them. After making them thinner, it became much easier for small hands to grab and eat.

I also noticed a big difference depending on how well I kneaded the mixture. When I didn’t mix enough, the sticks would fall apart easily. But once I kneaded it thoroughly, the texture held much better.

Now I usually make a larger batch and freeze them, so I always have a quick option ready on busy days.

At first, my baby was a bit unfamiliar with it, but after trying it a few times, baby beef sticks quickly became one of their favorite snacks.

So these days, I often rely on this recipe as a go-to finger food option.

Closing

This baby beef sticks recipe is a simple and practical way to prepare a balanced meal.

It is especially useful during the self-feeding stage, when babies prefer to hold and eat food on their own. The shape and soft texture make it easy and comfortable for babies to eat.

With just a few ingredients, you can prepare a meal that includes both protein and vegetables. You can also adjust the vegetables depending on your baby’s preferences.

I often prepare these baby beef sticks in advance and keep them ready for busy days.

If you are starting finger foods, you can also pair this with a softer dish like beef rice porridge.

Having a few reliable recipes like this can make mealtime much easier and more consistent.
